Critical Thinking and Media Literacy
What kind of information is it convenient to analyze with critical thinking and why?
News, movies, television ads and any information that affects the pocket or health of citizens, are issues that deserve to be analyzed with critical thinking.
I recently saw an advertisement on television for job offers in the government sector through the National Civil Service Commission, in which you have to register, take an exam and meet certain requirements to be eligible. There are positions for promotion or vacancies for the general public.
In 2018 I applied for a position in the mayoralty of Bogotá. I took a level of care test, however my experience was not good. The exam had questions of a technical and professional level, in addition, it asked to solve cases that only an active civil servant could solve. The National Civil Service Commission did not report these circumstances before presenting the exam.
I'm sure I prepared well for the exam but despite my best efforts I couldn't pass the test. I felt let down as the test was aimed at experienced people, even though I applied for an inexperienced trainee level position.
In 2023, he saw the announcement of vacancies in the government again, so I think and ask myself several questions. The right to take the exam has a value between 38,000 to 90,000 Colombian pesos. They present thousands of people aspiring for a job in the government but there are few vacancies. That's why I wonder:
Is this a business?
Is it a difficult exam so that almost no one passes it?
Is it really a transparent employment process?
Why do I have to pay to take an exam?
What does the government do with that money?
Based on my experience, I believe that it is a fraud, a waste of time, and I also believe that the Colombian state has a business charging money for the right to present the tests and very few people manage to pass.
